“Many years ago Skyrne could boast one of the best Fairs in Ireland.”
(continued from previous page)Oberstown. A large force of Police would be on duty in Skryne keeping order. Late in the evening free fights would take place. Tinkers, Gipseys and anyone wishing to fight would join in. In those days Horse drawn Hack Cars would drive from Navan Drogheda and Dublin driving cattle dealers and Horse dealers. Many men were employed driving cattle to Drogheda and Drumree. Schools were closed in Walterstown and Skryne on the great day and work was suspended on the 12th October. Now that is all changed.
