We are told that the potato crop was a complete failure. The fields of potatoes that were good to-day were quite rotten to-morrow. The same thing occurred to those that we already dug and pitted.
Around this parish where we live was very thickly populated, as it was round a bog, which the people were forced to inhabit from years previous to that. The Government had to build barracks for those that were suffering, and they had to build a hospital for those who were dying. It was England that was ruling us then so that they showed more respect to the Protestands than to the Catholics with the result that they suffered more.
