He used to have a Kerry cow, or two, and the lads used to do the churning for him. He had beam connected with the churndash passing through a hole in the room door, and a rope attached to it on the room side, and he would send one of the boys in to work at the rope. (like pulling a bell rope).
There was a tree trunk sawed in half length-wise, and legs, or props under it, that was the desk. It filled most of the kitchen, and between it, and the wall in the corner he used to keep the calf.
He taught the boys reading, writing, arithmetic, grammer, and surveying to the more advanced ones.
