- 341 Collected by Maire Duignan, Coolronan School.Cattle in FolkloreThere are some things about cattle which connects them with the fairies - it is mostly in country places you would hear these old customs.
One thing is that when you would have done milking you should make the sign of the cross on the cow with the milk because long ago the people believed that if you did not do that the fairies would come and the cow would not give any milk for three days and the same old custom lasts still but I suppose not for that reason.
Another thing that was done not so long ago is this - When the cow would have a calf you should go around to the neighbours and give them the first milk you would take from the cow and the vessel that you would bring the milk in should be washed clean and the sign of the cross made on the can(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
