- (Drawing of stone)
This stone was found in a quarry while road material was being quarried. The finder (John Kelly of Coolronan) says it was 16 feet under the surface & far in from the face of the quarry. There were large numbers of other loose stones too but they were all cleared away.
The stone has a flat top roughly oval in shape & measuring (A-B) almost 9 inches and 4½ in width.
A cross is cut in this flat surface to a depth (varying) around ¼" to ⅜". The cutting grows wide & shallow towards A but stops a little short of the end of the stone at B.
At D there is a wing(ed) or groove (as shown above) from end of cross arm but it may be a natural dint.
The bottom surface is roughly flat but has many bumps. On the flattest part there is a cross - not carved (but)(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
