  1. Some places are still pointed out as to where mass was said long ago. It is said that priests said mass in an old sand-pit in Martinstown. It is said there were soldiers looking for a priest named Father Doyle in Gilstown, and a man got five pounds for telling on him. The priest was on a horse and crossed a big river, but when the soldiers were crossing the river one of them fell into it, and while the other soldiers was pulling him the priest got away.
    Priests did not say mass in the houses at that time.
