My Uncle who lives in Carrick in the parish of Kilskyre told me the following story:-
The place where I live is now called Carrick. It got its name from the big rock that is on the top of the hill. One day long ago a man was cleaning a gripe, when suddenly on glancing upwards, he saw sitting on the bank nearby a fairy. He was wearing a red coat and a short brown trousers. The man seized his opportunity. He caught hold of the fairy and asked him where he could find a crock of gold. The fairy marked a spot on the ground with his foot, and told the man to dig it, and that he would surely find the gold.
