    Turf was used as fuel and "shoves" and mill seeds for baking. As flaxmills were common long ago the people used to burn the inside of the flax (shoves). When it would be burned they would bake the bread on the gríosach. Mill seeds were used also.
    Rush candles were the only light they had at night.
    When renovating my house last year I found nineteen old coins wrapped in a handkerchief. They seem to be halfpence and pence dating back to the reigns of George III and George IV. They belong to the years 1799; 1806; 1807 etc etc. I also found a number of old clay pipes.
