- A story is told locally about Fionn.
One time when Fionn was hunting in this district he rested in a field called the "thistle field."
During the night he heard a great noise and he went up in a tree for safety. When he was about to lie down on a branch it broke and he fell heavily to the ground.
He was very angry and he said, in a certain number of years that not one tree would be seen in that field.
No trees are growing in the field at present. - There is a hill near the school called Balsaw hill. On top of the hill there is a big stone and Fionn is supposed to have thrown it from Tara. The mark of his thumb can still be seen on the side of the stone.
