- Fairy forts or moats as they are more commonly called have always been the centre of much interest because there is supposed to be something mysterious about them.
There is one of these moats up at the Hill of Slane a short distance beyond the Cemetery and the steeple. It is a high green mound with a round hollow in the centre of the top tit is supposed to be the burial place of King Slancis. There is an opening to it supposed to be on the South East. But it is not known that any attempt has been made to do so. Though Tradition says that there are a lot of gold and jewels buried there.
About two and a half miles from this moat there is another on the side of the "old road" which leads from Slane to Beauparc. This is also a high green mound and the fairies are supposed to dance there every night.- Bailitheoir
