- Severe WeatherWritten by Lillie Guirke, Dromone, 12th May 1938There was a great snowstorm here in this locality on the 24th February, 1932. The snowstorm lasted two days and the snow remained on the ground for more than a fortnight, and a terrific wind was blowing. Cars were blocked on the roads and could not move. In fact all traffic was blocked.
There was damage done to boats on the sea. There were many lives lost between cattle and horses and sheep also people. There was a severe thunderstorm on the 14th August 1914. Horses and cattle were killed and many people were killed also. Terrible rain storms and floods came after that. The forked lightning which accompanied the torrents of rain, killed several farm animals, which took refuge under trees. Mr. Logan, of Dunboyne, lost seventeen bullocks on this occasion.
