- At one time Finea was renowned for great swimmers and wrestlers. About fifty years during the summer months there were many swimming competitions. Messrs Pat Gorman, John Nicholas, Edward Kiernan, Tom Mahon, John Sheridan, Thomas Creighton, Phil Clarke all deceased were champion swimmers. Edward Kiernan swam from Goreport to the River Mouth Finea a distance of three miles in the middle of Winter for a bottle of whiskey. Pat Gorman also won many competitions.
