palm in every house that the cattle lives in to bring luck on their stock and Candlemas Sunday when they come from Mass they go out to the bier and lights the candle in it and makes the Sign of the Cross on the Cows tail.
On a May eve before sun set the old people would go out and pull brances of the round berry tree. Then they would take of the leaves and leave them aside and from the branches make gads and tie them on the cows tail with a red ribbon and also another for the churn dash. They used to put the leaves of the round berry on the first fire they light on May morning. Some old people would stay up all night to get the first gallon of water to wash the pails and cans that they would have for milking on May morning. In olden times the cows often lost their milk. When the people would go for the cows they would see a lot of cats and those cats was supposed to be witches and the cows would give no milk that night.
Some people always put a mark on hatching eggs to know when they put them down. When a person gets hatching eggs from other people they always put one in for luck.
