    Within a very few miles there are many forts in the district surrounding the village. The first nearest fort is to be found in where the grounds of Tyrrellspass castle.
    Local historians say that there is an underground passage from the castle. This was very useful when the castle was a strong hold in days long ago. Still further on there is the Clon Crow fort. Very great superstition is attached to this particular fort. All those forts are the homes of the Fairies. No wise man will cut or harm the hawthorn around the fort. Years back a landlord ignored the warnings and started a road by the fort. One of his work
