- I have two churns at home - one a dash Churn and the other an end over end churn. When the dash churn was bought, the cooper asked was it a one cow churn, two cow churn, or three cow churn was wanted. The dash has a long handle and a flat piece of wood with holes in it. The churn is wide at the bottom and goes out twice as wide in the top, that part is called the chime of the churn, and when people is churning they lift the handle up and down. There is a glace on the led of the churn and when the milk is gone off the glace, the churning is finished.
