Clover only grows where the land is good. Nettles, dock-leaves and thisles grow only in poor land. Some herbs have medicinal properties. Primrose-leaves, dandelion, and a herb called germander when boiled and the water in which they are boiled if it is drunk cures the yellow jaundice.
The dock-leaf or "dockin" as it is called locally cures the sting of a nettle. It is rubbed to the sting and the words "Dockin, dockin, take out the nettle, are said. Nettles are used for feeding young ducks and turkeys. Some poeple also, eat young nettles.
