   My mother has an old spinning wheel that belonged to her great grandmother. It had not been used for years and years, until about 16 years ago, my mother attended a spinning class here in town.

   When she was able to spin the instructress got her some parts that were missing for the old wheel and fitted up for her.

   She spun a good deal for a while, then she gave it up. She says the work is very interesting but very tedious. First of all the wool is got just as it comes off the sheep back.

   Then it is greased with a mixture of sweet oil and parrafin and teased. Then it is carded and spun.

   For knitting wool it has to be spun very finely, and two of the threads have to be twisted
