There was a great football match in Magees field in Ring about thirty years ago. It was between two towns land namely Ballinacliffy and Inchboffin. It was a wet day and all the Island men did not come. A man from Inchturk refereed the match. They played in their ordinary clothes. Ballinacliffy won. They did great destruction to their clothes and boots. It was a very rough match and a lot were hurt.
Bill Foxe burst his two boots and waist-coat. The ball was made by James Curley a local cobbler of Lissatunna. It was made of leather and a rubber bladder inside full of air. Sometimes they played in their bare feet.Collected by John Reid, Muckanagh. Aged 13 1/2
