- The marriages that took place long ago were carried out in a different manner to what they are now. At present people are married in the chapel, but long ago marriages took place in the houses. There is a house in the townsland of Ardnagrath and parish of Drumraney where the priest lived long ago. At present this house is occupied by a man whose name is Thomas Campbell. Anybody who wanted to be married had to go to the house to the priest and he married them there. There is an account given of a marriage which took place in this particular house, and here it is. One Ash Wednesday two parties went to the house to get married. They went on a side cart and a procession of cans followed them. After the marriage they retired to the bride's house where the breakfast was held. It is the custom for the "Straw Boys" to visit the house on the night of the marriage. They came on this night and they were entertained. The night was spent by dancing and music. Past morning the newly married parties returned to their home.
