- There are three forges in St. Mary's Parish, Athlone, they are owned by:-Mr Hatton, Creggan
Mr Egan, Upper Irishtown
Mr A. Lynam, Scotch Parade
Lynam's father and grandfather were blacksmiths from the tenth century onwards.Hatton's and Lynam's forges are at crossroads. There are iron or tin roofs on the forges. The doors are shaped like an ordinary door. The forges are one storey buildings made mostly of wood. The fire is built up off the ground. It is flat on the top, and the bellows are behind the fire. There is a wooden bar that goes across the bellows, and another one goes across that one that is tied to the bellows, and it is pulled up and down. The bellows were not made around here. The main tools the blacksmith use(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
