- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)of bad luck for the family at the churning.
When the butter was ready it was taken out with a trencher and weighed in pounds. It was shaped by two wooden instruments called 'hands'. The buttermilk was either drunk by the people or used for feeding calves. Before the butter was taken out, the churn was raised on one side and rocked for fifteen minutes. It is then put into water and washed three times to get the milk out of it. It was then salted.
There were different types of churns, barrel churn, dash churn and machine-churn.
