   Hallow Eve

   Hallow Eve falls on 31st October. On this night the old people say you would see the pooka and the fairies.
   The children play games and they eat apples, nuts, and barm brack. These are some of the games, They get four saucers and put clay on one, water in another, a ring in another, and a beads in another and they say if you put your finger on the ring you will be married first in the family and whoever puts her finger on the water will go across the sea and whoever puts her finger on the clay will be dead before the year is out and whoever puts her finger on the beads will be a nun.
   Another game they play is hang an apple out of the ceiling and try to get a bite out of it without putting your hand to it.
   Here is another game they play. They get some cups, saucers, and spoons and put them on the floor so that
