    The houses of long ago were quite different from those of now-a-days. They were very low and had hipped gables, the chimneys were of a wooden structure. They were built up with spars and plaited with rods cross-ways. This was then plastered with yellow clay inside and out-side. The windows were small in most cases with only one pane of glass. The room and kitchen were usually divided by a mud wall and sometimes a wooden structure. There were usually never more than two apartments. The chimneys were called "clickingo".
