A Song
“Come all ye loyal comraden, where ever you may be”
This song was composed by a servant boy who worked with my grandfather
He made it as a comment on his own life as he was a ploughman and a horseman.
It was made about seventy years ago.
The verses of the song are as follows
1
Come all ye loyal comrades,
Where ever you may be,
Never hire with you master,
Till you know what the work is to be.
He will have you up every morning,
Before the day does dawn,
I fear I wont be able,
To plough the rocks of bawn.
2
My sock is getting worn,
And my coulter's getting thin,
I'm trembling every day,
Afraid I'd loose them,
Rise up gallant Sweeney,
And give my horse some hay,
And give to him a feed of oats,
Before I ride away,
Dont feed him on soft turnips,
that grows down in the lawn,
For I fear I wont be able,
To plough the rocks of Bawn,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
