Of course the amount and quality of these differed according to the social position of the bride and groom in the world. Before the end of the week and by previous arrangement the groom's came to bring home the bride. On the same day the bride's "flitting" was sent by horse and cart to her new home. The bride's brother took on this important duty. It was so managed that both parties arrived about the same time, usually at night-fall. Then followed a night of feasting, and enjoyment. The friends of the groom were all invited to this and the festivities lasted till midnight. This was called the "dragging home". After that night it was usual for the near relatives of both brides and groom to give parties or "sprees" to the newly married(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
