After a while they are scuffled with a scuffler which has teeth that can be removed. They are similar to the teeth on a spring tooth harrow. The scuffer goes along in the alley ripping up the clay and sides of the drill. The teeth are then removed and a double mould-board is put on and they are moulded up again. It is done often when weeds appear. Sometimes a plough is used for moulding but the plough is double as quick. Long ago people used a beesom for putting on the spraying stuff and lime was also used. When the sprayer was invented people joined for one and as the lime used to clog the nozzle Washing soda was used instead. A hoe is sometimes used for tearing down the drills.
