- In Killiane there is a place called Ameens Cross. The word "Ameens" comes from the word "Amen". A Priest used to say Mass in this place, for the poor people in the Penal days. He had a little shed in the side of the ditch in which he used to say Mass, It was so small that he could only stand in it himself and the people used to stand outside. One day a rich man came along and saw them kneeling in the rain, and asked them what they were doing there. They told him that they were hearing Mass. Now this man was a protestant but he took compassion on them and gave them money to build a chapel, so that they would not be out in the rain any more.
