In Summer the cows are out in the field both by day and night and they are only brought in to be milked. In winter they are kept in by night and they are turned out for a short while each day.
As the cow house is divided into bales so the stable is divided into stalls but by boards from the posts that go from the floor to the roof. The crib is a stick from one wall to the other about five feet out from the wall at the horses' heads. Boards are nailed to this pole and stuck down to the ground.
The floor is made of stones driven down into the ground. This is done to keep the horses from tearing up the ground with his hoofs.
