- The district of Kilmurry: Barony of Upper Philipstown.
Kilmurry is the name of my district. Daingean is the name of the Parish. There are about thirteen families and about forty people in Kilmurry. There is one thatched house and twelve slated houses. There is no man over 70 in Kilmurry. They know no Irish. The houses were more numerous locally in former times. There are two houses in ruins in my district, Thomas Leavy lived in one of them, and my grandfather died in the other. There is a saying about Kilmurry "Starch and blue for the Kilmurry crew". The land is boggy, and it is good where not boggy. - The name of my townland is Wood-of-O. The name of my Parish is Daingean and the name of my barony is Upper Philipstown. The number of families is sixteen. The number of people is sixty three. No name is common. There are ten slated and six thatched houses. The Wood-of-O got it's name because there was a wood in it at one time and mostly yew trees grew in the wood. There are four old people in my district. They know no Irish. They can not tell stories in Irish but they can tell them in English.
