    laid in the hospital where after four days death released him from his terrible sufferings. This terrible murder happended in the Spring of 1821 and was committed by the members of a Secret Society. It is estimated that at least twelve of their number were killed and a large number wounded and only that they set the house on fire Murphy would have driven them away altogether. Cattle and sheep now graze over the place where this terrible struggle took place over a century ago. There is now no trace of the cabin but musket balls are often picked up near where it once stood, evidences of the dreadful struggle which took place there one hundred and seventeen years ago.
