"Married in May
And you'll rue, it for aye."
At night time the straw-boys come. They all have their faces covered and are dressed so as not to be recognised. These dance until morning.
In olden times the marriage customs were some what different. As there were no motors contracting parties used to go to Church on horseback or in common cars. The bride used to have her nicest quilt spread over the car. The guests used to go on horseback. They all met at the bride's house in the morning and there were feasting and drinking until the evening when the pair went to church to be married. After the marriage there was a race back to the bride's house to see who had the best horse. There was a great competition in this and much jealousy over the winner. People used to feed their horses well for some time(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
