There was a house situated at this cross and the people who dwelt there were great musicians. On Sunday evenings the man used to play the fiddle and hundreds of people used to come and dance on the roadside, while others used to play cards around the tree. There is a beautiful view from this cross. We can see the valley of the Barrow, and Mount Brandon, Mount Leinster and the Wicklow mountains. At that time when a man was dying he divided his land among his sons. They then would build a mud-wall cabin on each plot. One man who had no land to divide called his family around him and told them that the sweetest thing you ever lit your pipe with was a furze bush. There were three flag quarries working in this district about fifty years ago(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
