  1. There was a big wind in the month of February 1903. It was a terrific gale and people who rememberd it say that they thought the end of the world was coming. Between one o'clock was its worst. Houses were stripped and slates carried for hundreds of yards. Trees were uprooted in every direction and a terrific flood followed and after two days all was over. At Fitz Maurices of Johnstown one could step from one tree to another which had stood by the roadside.

  2. Abot the year 1888 there were terrible Storms. It happened that there was a fall of Snow which lasted for a fortnight and was about seven feet deep. The roads and fields were all blocked and the people from the countryside were nearly starving because they could not get to town. There were a large number of sheep and lambs lost. The men that went to search were also lost. A man named Whelan from Roscatt
