   In the year 1908 there was a very heavy snow storm in this district. The snow in some places reached a height of five feet. At Bennekerry Cross one could walk to the top of Browns Hill wall as the snow had drifted against it. People had to cut paths from their houses through drifts. Farmers lost a great number of sheep which huddled together in the shelter of hedges and the snow came there the heaviest. Dr Kidd of Tullow came to attend a man named Thomas Nixon at Bennekerry. He waited for a while and put his pony in the stable thinking it would only be a shower but it the morning it was snowing still heavier My
