Old houses of long ago were called by the old people mud cabins. They were all thatched because long ago slates were not common. Most of them were thatched with rushes from the bogs. The thatch was procured from the bogs. Some of them were thatched with wheaten straw because long ago wheat was grown plentifully in Ireland.In most of the farmers house there was a bed called "A Settle Bed".
