There is a little three-cornered field up the Green Road full of briars. It is said that if you dig up the field the fairies will come and do a great deal of damage to your house. This is supposed to have happened to people named Byrne.
Several of the above corners of fields are to be seen in the Wicklow district. The local people call them "Screens". They are said to contain the bodies of unbaptized infants.

  2. There was a fairy named Will o' the Wisp and he was very fond of all. The devil gave him money every day. This day the devil gave him a purse and concealed himself in it. Will o' the Wisp was a forge head. He was drunk one night and he took the purse from his pocket and began to hammer it. The devil cried out "let me out". Will died and he went to hell, but, the devil would not let him in. That is the reason he is wondering around the county to-day.
