When the wind blows from the north it foretells hard weather - frost and snow. The east wind often brings snow too: The west wind brings the most rain to this district. People do not like the wind from the east, they say "it is good for neither man nor beast". When the birds are hopping about near the houses, it shows that frost or snow is coming. When the curlew and peacock are heard calling we usually have rain afterwards. If the wild geese appear early in winter, a storm follow. Seagulls on land also portend storm.
