- There were a few poets around this district some years ago, and there are a few here yet. Jms McGoldrick Clohogue, Swanlinbar composed a song about the tossing of the chapel in Swanlinbar. Tom Maguire Kinawley composed the '' Fight at Macken Hill.'' Those two poets died about 40 yrs ago. They are both buried in Kinawley. Corrigan from Teemore, Derrylin composed a song about the Creamery .
James McCahill living in Swanlinbar presently composed the following song about his landlord who is still livingII am Owney Fee, I belong to Carrow
For work and uselessness most people know
But I jobbed in buck grats, bull calves jack-asses
And the ice-cream business was a failure too.III grabbed Johnson's land to make a fortune
And stocked it with cows at two shillings per head.
The road was clear and I knew it was easy
To grab from old Jimmy's bed.IIIOn last Friday some goats I was selling
Had the bargain made but just the luck.
When a fellow says only for the hours
You couldn't tell which was the buck.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
