- Local Cures
The old Irish people put great belief in Local Cures. These cures were handed down from generation to generation. Some families were noted for some particular cures. There cures were noted long before medical science reached the heights it has reached today.
Herbs were the most things used for these cures, and even today these herbs are used by medical men.
Dandelion was used for a cure for yellow gaundice.
Ivy leaves were well known cure for corns. The juice of boiled roots of nettles was a very good cure for a cough. Another very simple cure in which people put great belief was the whey of scalded buttermilk, which was taken for a cold.
Apart from herbs there were superstipious cures.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
