- Ancient Marriage Customs
In the olden days when marriages took place the groom went to the bride's house and asked the father for his daughter. If the father agreed the day was appointed and they went to the chapel and got married. Then when the marriage was over they went to the bride's house and had dinner. They put in an enjoyable evening drinking and dancing.
The groom brought his wife to his own house and they continued with the dance. In a week's time after the marriage there was a bride's drink and everybody brought a bottle of whiskey to the house of the groom and bride, and they had an enjoyable night.- Faisnéiseoir
