The man of the house would consider the proposal very carefully and make an offer of a fortune in money much less than the sum mentioned by the "matchmaker". Of course the "matchmaker" would object but would agree to accept something less than the sum originally mentioned by him. After some "bargaining" an agreement would be reached and the date for the wedding day fixed. In certain cases where the young man was a stranger to the girl's father the latter would insist on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
