The most common kinds of bread used in this district in olden times were boxty and oatenmeal bread. Boxty was made with grated potatoes, boiled potatoes and flour. Oatenmeal bread was made with oaten meal and flour.
The vegetables used were cabbage and turnips. At Christmas the people ate turkeys, geese and ducks.
In Easter Sunday the people ate a large number of eggs.
Porringers made out of tin and noggins made out of wood were used before cups (were) became common.
