  1. There were fairies in the district long ago. I heard of a man named Luke Smith, who lived beside Ballyjamesduff. He was coming home from the town one night carrying a bar of iron. He met a number of horsemen on the road. They were riding white horses. They brought him back to the town. Although the shops were closed, they took him into a public house and wanted him to drink from them, but one of them told him not to take any.
