- In Dungimmon there is a cooper and he makes churns, butter firkins and all things connected with butter making. He also makes corn riddles and various other things of that description.
This trade is in the family for many generations. These coopers are Gibsons and what the ancient Gibsons were making the present family is still making.
The tools used for this trade are the same as those of the carpenter except a few such as the beetle and the scraper.
In making the riddles the cooper pounces out the ash which he uses into strips and then he makes a hoop of the strips and ties it with small pieces of the ash.
When he is making churns he cuts the timber the right length and breadth. He then places the boards in the shape of a barrel putting hoops outside and inside.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
