- Fairs are held locally in Ballinagh, Cavan, and Arva. In Ballinagh the fair is held on the first Tuesday of each month. There is no suitable place to hold a fair and it is held on the street, calves, and bonhams are sold at this fair.
On Cavan hill the fair of Cavan is held, and cattle and sheep are sold on it. Toll is paid at one place in Cavan where a gate leads into a field and as you go through the entrance you pay 2d for every head of cattle. The pig fair is held in an outside street of Cavan, and the horse fair beside Gordons Garage.
Luck money is always given on every animal sold at the fair, the luck penny ranges from 1 shilling to 3-6d. When animals are bought, the people show their bargain by clapping hands.When animals are bought they are marked with keel. Buyers travel the country days before the fair and buy cattle suitable to their liking.
The horse fair is held in Farnham street, Cavan.
The prices range from £13 to £15 for young horses and ten pounds to £12 for old horses
