- After the Cromwellian Wars the good lands around Lake Sheelin were planted. The Catholic families were driven out the lands were given to a Cromwellian soldier. This man had not sufficient capital to work the lands and he did not like to live in Ireland. He sold the lands to a ship's carpenter called Maxwell for £10 and a horse to bring him to the coast. These lands comprise the districts of Drumbee, Toneylion, Tullyboy, Killafassy, Lisduff and Ballymachugh. Besides these lands there were about one hundred acres of demesne lands. The Maxwells were a very bigoted type of landlords and planted Tullyboy with Protestant settlers. They did likewise with Killafassy and when a Protestant tenant sold his farm, the purchaser would not be accepted by the landlords if he did not belong to the Protestant Church. Some of the Catholic tenants turned Protestant in order to retain their farms. The Higgins family of Ballymachugh and the MacCabes of Tullyboy turned to the Protestant faith.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
