- On St. Stephen's Day the young boys, and oftentimes, the girls disguise themselves with "false faces" and grotesque costumes and go around from house to house playing music, dancing and singing. Sometimes, the children go in crowds but the majority prefer to go alone or at least in twos and threes. Those latter carry a wren imprisoned in a box or cage and, standing at the door recite an old rhyme:-
"The wren, the wren, the king of the birds.
On St. Stephen's Day she was caught in
the furze.
