- In the month of February nineteen hundred and thirty three one of the greatest snowstorms in living memory swept across the country.
There was a heavy fall of snow accompanied by a fierce gale. This gale swept the snow into drifts, some reached the height of fifteen to twenty feet.
It continued snowing for three days and three nights. Large numbers of sheep and cattle were lost on the moors. Some human beings were lost and others were found suffering from cold and hunger.
Traffic became disarranged and it was impossible to go anywhere owing to the roads being blocked.
