Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The prefix Cor, a low round hill, is very common in this district! We have:-
    Corfad,
Coragloon (a very apt description of the knee-shaped hill)
    Cornagleea,
    Corlatt,
    Corrérourke
Cormeen (very round and smooth surface)

Cornakille (an old church of the Penal days was in this locality, but of course the name existed many centuries before its erection)
The name Cornakille was probably given to distinguish the place from Killeeter (lower wood) adjoining.

Lis is also frequent in the place names:-
Lisnabuntry (The old fort is still there but nothing is known of the widow)

    Lislea
    Lisnahedherna
    Lislin
are other places in which forts are still to be seen.
These forts are respected and interference with them is held to be unlucky. (See story at end telling of consequences following such interference)

    "Clon"
Clon is also met with a prefix in such names as:-
Clonarn (Sloes are still found here)
Clonmacmara is close to this school but the sea is 20 miles off.
The name "Seeharn" tells that sloes were also plentiful here in old times as they still are.

Glanadaragh (1 mile E.) recalls the long vanished wood
(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
