- (continued from previous page)were thatched or roofed with iron. Some of them had a bed in the kitchen. There was a curtain pulled across from the top of the house around this bed. The dresser was at the side of the bed. The fire was at the gable end. They thatched the houses with straw and sometimes with dry rushes. The chimneys were made of stone and sand. Some of them were made of boards. There were not many out houses. They were boarded.
